I have been daydreaming about picnics since our week of oddly warm weather in the middle of March. The almost summer like temperatures inspired me to dig out all of our picnicking things and make a list of what we had and what we still needed. We have almost everything now except for a fork or two.
Inevitably the weather got cold again, and feels all the more cold for just how warm that week was. So now I am sitting with my sweater pulled up around my face against the early spring air daydreaming about warm summer evenings spent with friends. I also am thinking about going looking for those last couple of forks today, and maybe some linens.
Meaghan and I are making two picnic baskets for the shop. Both are going to be basic picnic sets for two with a “blanket” to sit on, two napkins, mismatched forks, spoons, and knives as well as two wine glasses, tumblers, plates and bowls. Nothing is strictly one set, but everything works together in a lovely kind of way. Oh, and of course a basket for everything to live in. There is something wonderfully nostalgic about picnics, a sort of old world charm when nothing is plastic or paper. Not to mention a picnic this way is environmentally friendly as we are only buying second hand.
I look forward to the adventures the warmer weather brings Yes warmer, I think it only needs to be 15 degrees Celsius and in the sun to be warm enough to start out on a picnic. I think I need to buy myself a bike. One with a basket in the front. One I can wear summer dresses with and tie my books onto the handles.
